Cons

Getting Started With ResumeGiants

To use ResumeGiants, visit resumegiants.com and click “Login” > “Create account here.”

You’ll land on the Dashboard, where you can work on your first resume.

Let’s see what ResumeGiants has to offer!

AI Resume Builder

ResumeGiant’s AI builder lets you create a resume from scratch with AI. Simply click “New Resume” in the Dashboard to build your resume.

The Resume Builder asked us to choose a template. We’ll discuss the platform’s templates in more detail later.

ResumeGiants then took us through multiple steps to build the resume.

The first stage included adding our details, including name, occupation, and contact information.

Next, ResumeGiants asked us to fill in our work experience. This is where we first encountered AI. It offered to create the “functions and achievements” section.

We were impressed with the content AI delivered. It was relevant to our desired role. We could tell AI understood our work experience and job title (Cybersecurity Analyst).

We decided to push the AI by adding ‘Junior Cybersecurity Analyst’ to our work experience. It’s a similar role to the previous ‘Cybersecurity Analyst.’ However, there are significant differences in experience, level of expertise, and responsibilities.

This test would help us assess the AI’s ability to distinguish between nuanced job roles. It would also evaluate how well the AI tailors resume content to reflect specific roles.

The AI showed a precise understanding of the new role. It focused more on foundational tasks and responsibilities aligned more with a junior position, whereas the previous content focused more on advanced tasks with more experience and higher authority.

We were continually impressed with the AI’s contextual understanding. We couldn’t throw the AI off the trail, even after adding positions unrelated to the previous ones.

The AI-generated responsibilities of ‘IT Support Specialist’ differed significantly from the previous two (related) roles.

However, the AI-generated content wasn’t perfect. While it provided a solid foundation, it lacked quantifiable achievements. These are crucial for demonstrating the impact and effectiveness of a candidate’s contributions.

Here’s an example of an experience section generated with ChatGPT for the same roles. It includes quantifiable achievements, technical skills and tools, and other tangible outcomes to substantiate the candidate’s claims.

Otherwise, we found ResumeGiants very useful for generating content. We could edit the content later to personalize it. We also liked that the AI provided relevant and helpful tips for each step.

The AI even generated a resume objective after completing all the steps. The content was relevant, and concise, and required little editing.

Here’s a sample finished resume to give you an idea of what yours might look like.

Overall, we were impressed with ResumeGiant’s help throughout the resume-building process. The platform took us step by step creating each section so we didn’t feel overwhelmed. Most importantly, the AI was consistently accurate and showed an impressive contextual understanding of our needs.

You still need to edit the content to personalize and strengthen it. However, ResumeGiants gets you 80% of the way there with minimal effort on your part.

Cover Letter Builder

ResumeGiant also creates cover letters from scratch for your resumes. Click “Create cover letter” on the Dashboard to start.

ResumeGiants asked us to choose a template. We also had the option of picking one later.

We needed to add our contact, including address and phone number. This step was unnecessary since we already added this information when creating our resume.

Resume builders like Enhancv store this information automatically. This way, you don’t have to start from scratch when you create a new cover letter/resume.

Next, ResumeGiants provided a pre-written cover letter. It was a good start since we didn’t have to write everything from scratch. We only needed to replace the placeholder text and edit the content to our liking.

However, given our positive experience with the AI writer, we’d have loved to see it in action here. Many AI-powered cover letter builders we’ve reviewed reference the job description you’re targeting and the accompanying resume.

Great examples of this include Kickresume and Enhancv. By analyzing the job description and resume, these tools generate far better cover letters than the template-style content we observed in ResumeGiants.

Additionally, most of the information required in the placeholder text was available in our resume. This included information such as our skills, education, and work experience. Filling this in manually was unnecessary.

While we appreciated that we didn’t have to write the cover letter from scratch, there are missed opportunities here. ResumeGiants could add its AI writer to the cover letter builder to make the platform more valuable. Other competitors do it, and ResumeGiants has the underlying technology.

We also wanted an applicant tracking system (ATS) checker for the cover letter and resume builders. Recruiters often use these tools to screen resumes before they get in front of human eyes. An ATS checker would increase the chances of getting noticed by potential employers.

Finally, a way to score resumes and cover letters against job descriptions would be helpful. It would help users assess the strength of their resume/cover letter and identify areas for improvement.

Here’s a sample cover letter we created with ResumeGiants.

Templates

ResumeGiants offers 20 resume templates, fewer than we’re used to seeing. Many alternatives, including Resumeworded and Kickresume, offer 40+ templates.

ResumeGiants does offer resume examples from real job applicants in addition to templates. You’ll find thousands of samples for almost any career imaginable.

We equally appreciated the option to toggle between including and excluding a photo. It may seem like a small detail, but it means you can access all resume templates and not have to choose between those with/without photos.

You can customize the resume templates, including changing the color, font, and text size. You can also rename sections and add new sections.

Similarly, ResumeGiants provides 16 cover letter templates. These templates come with pre-written content. We liked the content categories: recent graduates, unsolicited, and internship applications.

We still think an AI writer would be more useful than cover letter templates. Here’s how that would work: Upload your job description, link your resume, and the AI writes the content from scratch.

Still, pre-written templates beat writing content from scratch.

Overall, ResumeGiants offers fewer templates than most resume builders we’ve tested. We also noted a bias for classic or traditional templates, which is fine for most job applications. However, if you’re looking for fancy or creative resume templates, VisualCV might be a better option.

Pricing

ResumeGiants offers two plans, including ResumeGiants Basic and ResumeGiants Premium.

The ResumeGiants Basic plan is free for 14 days. It offers access to select templates, basic customization options, and Downloads in TXT format. You also get email support.

The ResumeGiants Premium plan costs $9.99 charged every 28 days (for weeks). It offers AI-powered suggestions, access to all templates, multiple download formats, and more. You’re automatically upgraded to the Premium plan after your 14-day Basic plan trial.

Closing Notes on ResumeGiants

ResumeGiants has a terrific AI resume writer to flesh out your resume. It can generate various resume sections that you can personalize. It also offers professional ATS-friendly templates to streamline the resume-building process.

However, there is room for improvement. The platform doesn’t have an AI-powered cover letter builder, which can be useful. It also lacks an ATS checker and doesn’t score your resumes against job descriptions.

ResumeGiants isn’t terrible. It’s still ideal for a student or someone creating their first resume who doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by the process. We encourage you to take advantage of the free sign-up to decide.
