Our Verdict
Based on our review, we liked Craiyon’s ability to generate unique images from simple text prompts quickly. It has a user-friendly interface where you can pick from four main image styles (Art, Drawing, Photo, None).
However, one of its glaring downsides is the limited resolution of generated images and long image generation times on its free version, which can be a deal-breaker for users aiming for productivity. The platform works best for generative art hobbyists and content creators seeking art inspiration.

Craiyon (formerly known as Dall-E Mini) is a free and easy-to-use AI image generator. The tool uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to create unique images from text prompts. It’s mainly used by designers, marketers, AI art hobbyists, and anyone needing fast image generation.
We suggest Craiyon for your projects if you fit any of these descriptions:
Craiyon may not be fitting for users who:
Craiyon has an intuitive user interface where users only need a detailed text prompt and choose from four image styles to generate their desired photos.
The platform enables users to use the tool for free and generate unlimited images. They can also experiment with different text prompts, styles, and Negative Words.
Negative Words allows users to omit colors, objects, and other details on their generated photos by entering a prompt.
On Craiyon’s free version, users must wait a minute or more to generate all nine photos, which can be time-consuming.
Unlike other AI image generators, Craiyon has only four main image styles (Art, Drawing, Photo, None), making its outputs less versatile.
From what we saw, the tool generates images with limited resolution, resulting in blurry photos. While it has an Upscale feature, its resolution is still considered low, which makes it more ideal for art inspirations than professional digital artworks.
Faces in generated photos by Craiyon often have exaggerated features, which can make them unrealistic.
Compared to competing AI image generator tools like StarryAI, Stable Diffusion, and others, Craiyon has a generous free plan, which allows you to generate unlimited images in a few minutes based on various themes and styles. It’s also user-friendly, enabling non-experienced users to try out the platform for AI image creation. Currently, Craiyon only has a mobile app for Android users.
Craiyon has a straightforward user interface and easy-to-use features, where you can input your desired text prompt or description and choose from four main image styles:
It gives you a nine-image set based on the prompt and your chosen style. For instance, we’ll input the text prompt, “dog on top of mountains photorealistic” and choose the Art image style:
We’ll also lessen green colors and sand on the generated images using the ‘Negative words’ tool. To start generating the image, click Draw.
After a minute, here’s the nine-image set generated by Craiyon.
To increase the quality of your desired photo, click on it and select Upscale. Then, choose the Download button on the bottom right to save the image to your device.
While the resulting image is still low-resolution, it still successfully portrays the text prompt from earlier:
Tip: Generated images using Craiyon’s free version will have their logo watermarked on the bottom-right of the image.
For the most part, we liked Craiyon’s easy-to-use interface and ability to generate unique photos from its four main image styles. It allows users to input any text prompts and generate unlimited images, even on its free version.
However, we found out that it generates images with low-resolution—a massive downside for users looking to use the tool commercially. It lacks photo customization features and has slow image generation times, at least for its free and Supporter plans.
Besides its free version, Craiyon AI offers three main pricing plans:
The Supporter plan is ideal for users who want to support the platform. It starts at $6 per month or $5/mo. when billed yearly. The tier offers a 45-second waiting time for 9 AI-generated images, high priority, ad-free site experience, and watermark-free images. Also, Craiyon will keep your photos private from their search results.
The Professional plan is for content creators and digital artists aiming to use the tool commercially. It starts at $24 per month or $20/mo. when billed annually. The tier offers all features on the Supporter plan, including having the highest priority on the platform, a lesser waiting time of 15 seconds per 9 images, and early access to new features.
Craiyon also offers an Enterprise plan upon request. It’s for large businesses that want a private server, custom models, integrations, and a dedicated support team. Check here to learn more about Craiyon’s pricing plans.
Craiyon is an easy-to-use tool that enables users to generate unique images with detailed text prompts and specific image styles. It allows unlimited image generation even on its free version, making Craiyon a superb AI image generator against Midjourney and StarryAI.
We gave it a 4 out of 5 overall rating due to its ease of use and unlimited image generation capabilities, which allow users to experiment with various prompts and styles. However, it has slow image generation times and creates low-resolution images—a deal-breaker for some users.
Overall, we recommend the tool for hobbyists and users seeking art inspiration.
