Pros & Cons of Castmagic

Pros

Supports the most common file types

Castmagic provides numerous input options, including URL, uploaded files, RSS Feed, and Zapier integrations. Most users won’t need to convert their files to a different format to use Castmagic.

Accurate automatic transcription

The AI quickly provides automatic transcriptions. The transcription is usually accurate, even for difficult accents. They also include timestamps and chapter splitting for easy navigation.

Easy repurpose content

Castmagic lets you convert your recording into numerous content types. This includes newsletters, blog articles, social media posts, and more. The AI-generated content requires minimal editing before publishing.

Multiple language support

Castmagic supports 60+ languages.

Cons

No built-in video editor

Castmagic focuses on processing audio. So, understandably, it lacks a built-in video editor. However, an editor would be useful for editing visual content or adding background music and effects to audio.

Let’s see what Castmagic has to offer!

Transcription

Castmagic automatically transcribes audio and video files in minutes. Manually transcribing content is tedious work, and this feature is handy for allowing content creators to focus on other essential tasks.

One of the things we liked right off the bat was the number of supported file types. Castmagic allows for numerous import options, including importing from a URL like YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo, and more.

You can also upload your files in multiple formats, including mp3, m4a, .wav, and other popular formats. You even get RSS Feed imports and Zapier integrations to import directly from your podcasting platform.

We asked Castmagic to transcribe a 22-minute YouTube podcast. It took the AI roughly 30 seconds to process the link and another 30 seconds to deliver the transcript. A wait time of around one minute isn’t bad and certainly beats transcribing the content manually.

The transcript for this test was 100% accurate. The AI also omitted filler words from the transcript, saving editing time. You can also assign speakers in the transcript making it easier to follow the conversation.

Some AI transcription tools struggle with non-native English accents. Therefore, we ensure to test their accuracy using a test video featuring strong accents. This is an important consideration for content creators aiming for a global audience

Again, the transcription was 100% accurate. We noted that the AI even transcribed foreign-language words correctly.

A cool feature is you can create quote cards from your transcript content. Castmagic lets you choose an aspect ratio and background color. You can also export the quote card to use on social media pages.

We were overall happy with Castmagic’s AI transcription feature. It was fast and accurate, which you need from these tools. The quote cards were a nice touch for repurposing or promoting your video or audio content.

Magic Chat

The “Magic Chat” feature works like a typical chatbot where you can ask anything about your content. It provides pre-written prompts that others find useful if you don’t know where to start.

These include identifying key themes and lessons, writing blog posts, and more based on your content. The AI references the transcript to generate answers.

We used one of the pre-written prompts to test the AI’s responses. We wanted to assess the AI vs. what a human might come up with.

The responses were spot-on and showed a good understanding of the content.

The AI also accurately captured the content’s key themes, again revealing a solid grasp of the content. “Magic Chat” can help brainstorm on-screen text overlays, formulating questions, and other text content for enhancing engagement.

Magic Chat” offers numerous possibilities for enhancing your podcasts. It’ll generate newsletters, reel scrips, LinkedIn posts, and more. These are terrific options for repurposing your content and growing your online presence with minimal effort.

Here’s a Newsletter the AI-generated for our recording. Of course, the text will require human editing. The Newsletter contains placeholder text that we’ll need to replace. Overall, though, the AI produced a professional Newsletter with an engaging subject line and valuable content.

The AI did make mistakes in some instances. In the below Speaker Bio, the AI talks about a third guest that doesn’t exist.

However, it’s a small error that’s easy to correct. The rest of the content is still good and ready to post after adding a personal touch. It’ll save time and effort instead of starting from scratch.

The only minor complaint is some pages look busy, which can be distracting.

Otherwise, the “Magic Chat” feature is well-developed and useful for scaling and streamlining content creation. We were happy with all the possibilities the AI provided, including its accuracy.

Pages

The “Pages” feature differs from “Magic Chat” because it allows you to generate long-form content using a text prompt. You can ask the AI to write long-form content based on your podcast. This includes generating summaries and 2000+ word articles, depending on your plan.

We asked the AI to generate a summary of our video. It did a good job of condensing the 17-minute video into a 150-word summary.

The best part is you can create long-form text content using multiple recordings. Meaning that you can create fresh long-form content from multiple recordings with the same themes.

We combined the two YouTube videos we used in our tests to create a blog post. The videos featured different themes and talking points, but we asked the AI to combine them in a way that makes sense.

For context, one video is titled “Advice on Podcasting and Living” and the other “The Power of Being Alone.”

Below is the full unedited post. To be fair, this was a trick test, but the AI exceeded our expectations.

The introduction did a fantastic job bringing the two ideas together and setting the stage for the post. The AI also automatically generated the lead image.

The body text was equally insightful. The AI understood the assignment and provided a compelling contrast between the two ideas. The content would need a human touch. There are difficult words typically not used in everyday speech, which is a common marker for AI-generated content.

However, Castmagic provided a solid place to start. The content would only need a few minutes of human editing before it is ready for publishing.

Castmagic did an equally impressive job rounding up the post and tying the insights together.

We were impressed with the “Pages” feature which complements “Magic Chat”. You could use it to create a centralized repository of recordings. This way, users don’t have to search individual recordings to find information.

Pricing

Castmagic offers three pricing plans. Although there is no free-forever plan, you get a seven-day free trial for all plans.

The Hobby plan costs $39 per month billed monthly or $23 per month billed annually. You can process up to 300 minutes of recordings per month. You also get unlimited file downloads, multiple workspaces, custom prompts, and more.

The Starter plan costs $99 per month billed monthly or $59 with annual billing. This plan gives you 800 minutes of video processing per month. You also get agency support which isn’t available with the Hobby plan.

The Rising Star plan costs $299 with monthly billing or $179 per month billed annually. It offers 2500 minutes of video processing and unlimited prompts.

You have the same features with all plans with only a few exceptions. The main difference is the video processing time. The payment structure is forgiving for users, allowing you to pay for usage rather than to unlock additional features in higher tiers.

Closing Notes On Castmagic

Castmagic is a terrific tool for generating accurate transcriptions quickly. It’s equally great for repurposing your content and making the most of your existing audio. The generated content isn’t 100% accurate, but you can proofread and edit it to bring it up to par. This shouldn’t be difficult given the AI’s overall accuracy.

Castmagic offers a seven-day free trial, so we encourage you to try it out and see if it's for you.
